I find inspiration in the colors and grandeur of nature: the peacefulness of a kayak paddling on a still lake, a bike meandering through a valley, a sailboat alone at sea.
I enjoy drawing things that I like, things that interest me: a hydroplane engine, woodworking equipment, Seattle. I strive for contrast and depth and use color, value and hard and soft edges to make it happen.
It’s important to me to see an accurate drawing, but not one that removes the artist’s hand from the process. I want my paintings to look better than the photo. Otherwise, what’s the point?
